Motorola Xoom2 400 Euro Pricing and Pre-Christmas Release Revealed by Carphone Warehouse

Just a week after Motorola announced their Q3 earnings and their disappointing Xoom tablet sales (100,000 units!!) there is news of its successor. Carphone Warehous a European purveyor of electronics, tablets, phones etc has a leaked flyer on the intertubes touting the Motorola Xoom2 will be landing before Christmas. They also have it listed at €399.90 (roughly $545) for the WiFi-only 16GB edition.

Surprisingly the device will be running Android 3.2, which we expect to be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich as quickly as possible considering Motorola has already committed to updating the original Xoom. Also the Xoom2 has taken a step down in size to an 8.2-inch screen. Personally I like the 10.1-inch original Xoom and if all they have done is update the ascetics (sharp edge corners ala the Droid RAZR) and made the screen smaller, I’m not sure this is going to be the device Motorola wants it to be. They’re also going to need to come way down on their pricing structure if they want to compete in the quickly crowding tablet space.

Either way, we’ll let you know more as we get it!

Motorla Teases New Product Announcement for Tomorrow – Droid Razr Anyone?

In keeping with Motorola’s style for teasing its new product announcements this one highlights the new features that users can expect to be included in the new device. Specifically “thinner”, “faster”, “smarter” and “stronger”. They’ve also included hints within the video, like the razor blade image, and shots of a bullet proof vest.

Everyone is expecting the announcement to feature the new Droid, the Razr, along with potentially introducing the upgraded Motorola Xoom2, and Xoom media edition tablets. The interesting thing here is that the announcement is scheduled for tomorrow 10/18/11, which happens to be the same date that Google and Samsung are set to unveil the next iteration of Android dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich. Could Moto leak some additional information regarding the updated OS? Is it just coincidence since Google and Samsung had to reschedule their press event from October 11th to the 18th?

Also importantly this announcement is coming quickly on the heels of Motorola’s release of the Droid Bionic which is their most recent superphone on Verizon. To me this seems like admitting that the Bionic didn’t do as well as either Motorola or Verizon had hoped, but it may just be because the device was so delayed that there just wasn’t a lot of lag time between devices.

Either way we’ll find out more information tomorrow regarding Motorola’s addition to what looks to be like a very crowded holiday smartphone release lineup for Verizon.

Motorola and Verizon Planning Press Event on October 18th – New Devices Eminent?

This story circulated yesterday with Motorola and Verizon sending out invitations to their press event scheduled for October 18th. As you can see, they’re marking it as “Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger.” which obviously is playing on the direction that all devices have been going and some of the key tag lines that the DROID line has been using. There have been leaks recently featuring what most speculate to be the refreshed XOOM, aptly named the XOOM 2, they’re also have been a few sightings of a 7″ version of the XOOM and even a more media centric version. For phone lovers there is growing hype around the DROID RAZR / DROID HD (Spyder), which some people “in the know” are expecting to be a much better device than the DROID BIONIC.

Either way we’ll be finding out a lot more next Tuesday, but probably not release dates or pricing. This is probably the beginning of the Holiday device push for Verizon so keep in mind what we see next week will most likely be followed by announcements from other manufacturers highlighting their key Holiday devices.
