Verizon Galaxy Nexus Supported In AOSP Once Again

Yes that’s right even with the ongoing dispute as to whether the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is actually a “Nexus” device, Google has released the official binaries for Android 4.1 for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This means that even though Google has previously stated that the Verizon version would  not be included in AOSP binaries, they may have had a change of heart.

Motorola XOOM WiFi Receiving Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Motorola XOOM WiFi Receiving Ice Cream Sandwich Update

News is spreading fast and furious this morning that Motorola has begun pushing out the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update to WiFi XOOM users. This follows up last weeks soak test to the Motorola Feedback Network users. The update is coming over-the-are and is for non-rooted users only. The build is IML77 for those of you keeping track.

No word yet on LTE XOOM users but it shouldn’t be too far behind, our guesstimate is one week from now. LTE software updates have to get through Verizon before they can get pushed to the masses so there is an extra hoop to jump through.

Motorola XOOM "Project" Is Ice Cream Sandwich?

Well here is some good news to brighten up a few Fridays out there. The Motorola XOOM “Project” that we scooped earlier this week is reportedly an actual Ice Cream Sandwich update. It is currently rolling out to MFN (Motorola Feedback Network) members on both WiFi and 3G/4G XOOM’s as a soak test. Depending on how the soak test goes it may be rolled out quickly to the masses.

Oh and it’s 4.0.3 for those of you wondering. We’ll put together a full update listing once our device is updated!

Motorola Prepping Update for Verizon LTE XOOM

Motorola Prepping Update for Verizon LTE XOOM

Good news for Verizon Motorola XOOM owners, Motorola is prepping another “project” for the LTE version of the Motorola XOOM. At this point details are scarce about the purpose of this update, so we wont get anyones hopes up that this is an ICS update. It could simply be a bug fix or maintenance update similar to the previous update that brought pre-paid support to the XOOM.

What ever it is, we’ll keep you posted on what is coming and what the changes are!

Verizon Shows Off New Motorola Xyboard LTE Tablet

Verizon Shows Off New Motorola Xyboard LTE Tablet

Well this isn’t unexpected all though we have been hoping that they would drop the “Xyboard” moniker which unfortunately hasn’t happened. According to multiple outlets Verizon is gearing up to release two different 4G LTE Android tablets from Motorola. The first is an eight-inch model and the second a ten-inch model and both are expected to land before the end of the year.

The tablets are both packing dual-core 1.2GHz chips, 1GB of RAM, 5 megapixel rear cameras and 1.3 megapixel front cameras. The tablets will be sporting Corning Gorilla Glass, and they’re rumored to be “thinner than a AAA batter and lighter than a paperback book.” Apparently the 10″ version also comes with a stylus, and is more targeted to enterprise users.

There is no mention of the OS running on these tablets just yet, we imagine that they’ll ship with Honeycomb and then be updated to ICS, but we could be surprised and they may have ICS at launch.

Spec wise these tablets are already coming into the game slightly outdated with the Asus Transformer Prime slated to launch this month with the Tegra3 Quad-core processor, we can’t help but wonder why Motorola didn’t opt to go with a Quad-core option for their second round of tablets. It appears as though Motorola has been having a hard time keeping up with the advancements in technology, considering that most of their phones (outside of the Droid RAZR) have come out with specs that were top of the line 6 months before they launched, and are second tier by the time they launch. Either Motorola needs to speed up their launch process or  they have to design and build they’re devices to be more flexible when it comes to hardware. They could always make they’re products less expensive and then customers wouldn’t mind that their specs are a bit behind the industry leaders but you can’t charge high-end prices and deliver less than high-end specs.

Motorola Inviting Verizon XOOM Owners To Take Part In Confidential Project

Motorola Inviting Verizon XOOM Owners To Take Part In Confidential Project

Seeing as how no one has been keeping this thing confidential we wanted to mention it as well. Motorola is sending out invitations to its “Motorola Feedback Network” members who own and have registered a Motorola XOOM on Verizon inviting them to a chance to participate in a “Confidential Project”. Motorola has been doing this sort of thing with all of their Android devices using their Feedback Network as a Beta environment for software updates. There has been some speculation that this is a test bed for the XOOM’s Android 4.0 ICS update, and while it is possible and the timing does somewhat match up, it’s also very possible this is just a test group for a Honeycomb bug fix update.

Either way, if you’re a member of the Feedback Network check your e-mail and try to get in to the program. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Verizon Roadmap Shows Nov 21 for Galaxy Nexus and Nov 30 for Xoom 2

Verizon Roadmap Shows Nov 21 for Galaxy Nexus and Nov 30 for Xoom 2

Leaked documents have surfaced with new information regarding release dates or upcoming Verizon devices. First we have the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is slated for W/O November 21st. Now the W/O can either mean, “week off” or “web only” either way, this is an additional date to put on your calendar for potentially when you can get your hands on the first Ice Cream Sandwich device on Verizon. Next up is the Motorola Xoom 2, the follow-up to the first Honeycomb tablet to hit the market. The initial Xoom didn’t have huge success in the market, now Motorola and Verizon are hoping that the follow-up which is thinner, lighter, and updated in specs will have much reception in the market. The Xoom 2 is slated for November 30th which of course is just an internal document on a leaked document so all of it is subject to change.

We’re dead in the heat of the Holiday push for Verizons device launch schedule and there are quite a few good ones coming out. Hopefully you have the patience to wait for the one you want. I’m having a hard time waiting for the Galaxy Nexus myself.

Motorola Xoom2 400 Euro Pricing and Pre-Christmas Release Revealed by Carphone Warehouse

Motorola Xoom2 400 Euro Pricing and Pre-Christmas Release Revealed by Carphone Warehouse

Just a week after Motorola announced their Q3 earnings and their disappointing Xoom tablet sales (100,000 units!!) there is news of its successor. Carphone Warehous a European purveyor of electronics, tablets, phones etc has a leaked flyer on the intertubes touting the Motorola Xoom2 will be landing before Christmas. They also have it listed at €399.90 (roughly $545) for the WiFi-only 16GB edition.

Surprisingly the device will be running Android 3.2, which we expect to be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich as quickly as possible considering Motorola has already committed to updating the original Xoom. Also the Xoom2 has taken a step down in size to an 8.2-inch screen. Personally I like the 10.1-inch original Xoom and if all they have done is update the ascetics (sharp edge corners ala the Droid RAZR) and made the screen smaller, I’m not sure this is going to be the device Motorola wants it to be. They’re also going to need to come way down on their pricing structure if they want to compete in the quickly crowding tablet space.

Either way, we’ll let you know more as we get it!
