PSA: Motorola DROID 4 Now Available From Verizon

Quick Friday morning PSA, the Motorola DROID 4 is now available from Verizon Wireless for $199.99 on a new two-year contract ($549.99 full retail). For those of you keeping score at home, this is Motorolas 4G LTE qwerty packing big brother to the DROID RAZR. It sports a dual core 1.2 GHz processor, 4″ qHD display, Gorilla Glass and water-repellent nanocoating.

If you’re in line for an update this is a solid choice especially if you’re one of those folks that hasn’t made the complete jump to full touch screen phones. Motorola has already said that this device will be updated to ICS so the fact that it comes out of the box with Android 2.3.5 shouldn’t scare you away. The only thing hat I don’t like about this is that they decided to go with the 1785 mAH battery instead of the larger 3300 mAH batter from the DROID RAZR MAXX, but they do still say you’ll get 12.5 hours of use out of this battery.

Droid 4 VZW

When we heard the Droid 3 was given its end-of-life discontinuation, we knew the Droid 4 couldn’t be far off. There is no exact date but it’s one step closer. Verizon announced the Droid 4 by Motorola at CES. They are calling it the “thinnest and most powerful  4G LTE QWERTY smartphone”. That’s a lot of qualifiers but we’ll hold off judgement. The Droid 4 is .5 inches thick with a slide out 5-row QWERTY keyboard. It has a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB built-in memory, a 8MP camera with 1080p video capture, and a 4-inch qHD display. Also on board, you’ll find some Motorola proprietary additions such as MotoCast for streaming, Smart Actions, Mirror Mode, and  nanocoating for splash resistance. The phone ships with Gingerbread but will be upgraded to ICS. Availability is in “the coming weeks”

Motorola Droid 4 Appears In Verizon System

Motorola Droid 4 Appears In Verizon System

Well isn’t Motorola on a roll, first the Droid Bionic, then the Droid RAZR and now the Droid 4? This pace of device releases can’t be sustained and has got to be driving Verizon up a wall. We have a rumored device picture found by Droid-life, along with some interesting information. First and foremost this is a full qwerty device similar to the original Droid but it is obviously taking design queues from the Droid RAZR. Other than knowing the device will be 4G and have a screen size similar to the Droid RAZR not much is known at this point but with things going the way they are we’ll go out on a limb and say an 8MP camera, at least 1GB of RAM and a Dual-Core processor.

This does appear to be an early device build and may change with the upcoming Android 4.0 not needing physical buttons perhaps Motorola will see fit to remove the buttons from this device and make the screen a bit larger. It’s early yet but we’ll certainly keep you posted as we bet more information on this device.
