Xbox 360 Dashboard Update On Track For December 6th

Well luckily Microsoft has kept their update schedule somewhat consistent over the past few years moving towards a system wide update twice a year. The largest update always comes just in time for the Holidays and this year Microsoft is at it again. Microsoft has confirmed that December 6th will be the date of their latest Xbox 360 system update. This update is bringing a new look, the streamlined Metro UI that is seen on Windows Phone and Windows 8 systems.

Along with the design overhaul there is updated integration with Facebook for increased sharing, and overall system-wide support for Kinect meaning you can flail your way through menus and movies at will.

The update will also include support for major Television support with Microsofts partners in the UK and the US, this service wont be fully available on December 6th but was promised before Christmas.

XBOX Dashboard Beta Update Information Due This Week, Console Registration Open

As we get closer to the official launch of the XBOX 360 Dashboard Beta program later this week, Microsoft has begun registering consoles that are signed up for the beta.

Lucky participants were notified today on how to register their console for the beta. Within the instructions is note that the beta will begin pushing to participants in the next 1-2 days.

The highlights form the new dashboard update feature:

  • New design and Kinect integrated voice and gesture controls
  • Beacons
  • Improved Facebook Sharing functionality
  • Cloud storage for Game Saves and Xbox LIVE Profile

Overall the new dashboard will be moving to the new “Metro” style that Microsoft has been employing across all of their product lines (Windows Phone 7, Windows8) and incorporate YouTube and Bing into the dashboard. This also helps tie together the Windows Phone and Windows platform integration into the Xbox.

Another feature with the new dashboard will be the Xbox LIVE TV service that we’ve previously covered.

This is one more step towards Microsofts complete 3 screens and a cloud integration of technology that we’re certainly looking forward too.
