PSA: Motorola DROID 4 Now Available From Verizon

Quick Friday morning PSA, the Motorola DROID 4 is now available from Verizon Wireless for $199.99 on a new two-year contract ($549.99 full retail). For those of you keeping score at home, this is Motorolas 4G LTE qwerty packing big brother to the DROID RAZR. It sports a dual core 1.2 GHz processor, 4″ qHD display, Gorilla Glass and water-repellent nanocoating.

If you’re in line for an update this is a solid choice especially if you’re one of those folks that hasn’t made the complete jump to full touch screen phones. Motorola has already said that this device will be updated to ICS so the fact that it comes out of the box with Android 2.3.5 shouldn’t scare you away. The only thing hat I don’t like about this is that they decided to go with the 1785 mAH battery instead of the larger 3300 mAH batter from the DROID RAZR MAXX, but they do still say you’ll get 12.5 hours of use out of this battery.

HTC Announces Ice Cream Sandwich Roll-Out Beginning March

HTC Announces Ice Cream Sandwich Roll-Out Beginning March

HTC has finally moved the needle forward with their plans for Ice Cream Sandwich updates to their phones, with the first wave starting to hit in March. HTC initially came out and said (like most manufacturers) that they were reviewing their line-up of devices and would make determinations of which handsets would be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Since this initial announcement there hasn’t been much movement, until today. HTC officially announced the first wave of devices that would be receiving the update to ICS (along with updated Sense) and that they will be receiving the update in March!

The List:

  • Rezound (Verizon)
  • Vivid (AT&T)
  • Amaze 4G (T-Mobile)
  • EVO 3D (Sprint
  • EVO Design 4G (Sprint)
  • Incredible S
  • Desire S
  • Desire HD

As you can see there is a pretty good group of devices there, unfortunately it’s not a lot of devices. HTC has been pushing out handsets at a very rapid rate (something they plan on correcting moving forward) so they can’t focus on all their handsets and have them all updated at the same time. Unfortunately that means a lot of people who have HTC phones, like Verizons first 4G phone the Thunderbolt, aren’t on the list for ICS updates. This doesn’t mean that they won’t be updated to ICS, it just means that in March you won’t be receiving it and you’ll h ave to wait for more information to come from HTC as to when you’ll be updated (if you’re going to be updated).

How do you feel about this? Do you think there should be more devices on this list? Do you think that you got ripped of?

Overlooked Android Ice Cream Sandwich Feature

There have been a lot of reviews and write ups recently regarding all of the announced features coming in Googles newest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and each one has been focused on the highlight features of ICS. Of course this makes sense because these are the news-worthy features, the Face-unlock, the updated Camera, the button-less navigation, but one not talked about feature is one that I think is going to have a resounding impact in the ecosystem.

HTC Thunderbolt Receives Alpha Ice Cream Sandwich Port

Well this is good news for T-Bolt owners out there especially since Verizon and HTC have not made any effort to keep the Thunderbolt up to speed with Android OS updates. Jdkoreclipse was able to get the pre-alpha ROM up and booting, sadly everything else isn’t working at this point. But this does mean that when the full source code is released that it is very possible for Devs to get ICS up and running on this bad boy. Hopefully the fact that they’re already trying means that it will be in line early in getting ICS instead of being forgotten by Verizon and HTC.

Keep your fingers crossed folks!
