Yes that's right even with the ongoing dispute as to whether the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is actually a "Nexus" device, Google has released the official binaries for Android 4.1 for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. This means that even though Google has previously stated that the Verizon version would not be included in AOSP binaries, they may have had a change of heart.
This is good news for ROM developers because that means they can include the Verizon model into their builds without any workarounds or "hacks" to make it work. This is also good news for those of you out there who don't run custom ROMs on your device because it means that Verizon and Samsung have a common base that they're working from for the carrier update to the Galaxy Nexus. Google did not push the ICS 4.0.4 build to AOSP for the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus and we had to wait almost 6 months after it hit GSMA variants before we received it. Hopefully this will help speed up the rate at which Verizon users receive the update to Jelly Bean.
In other AOSP news the Verizon version of the Motorola XOOM does not have official 4.1 binaries, while the WiFi model does. This leads us to believe that even though Google said the XOOM would be receiving 4.1 during their I/O, that they really meant the WiFi version and that the Verizon model will lag behind roughly 5 months like it has in previous updates.
