NVIDIA is putting the full court press on gaming, not just with their high-powered award-winning PC graphics cards, or even their tablets and handheld gaming devices. They’re now invading the living room with the new NVIDIA SHIELD living room entertainment device.

The new NVIDIA SHIELD is the third in the lineup following in the footsteps of the SHIELD Portable, then the SHIELD Tablet, and now the SHIELD Console. The SHIELD Console will be the first Android TV console to deliver 4K resolution, music apps and games. The SHIELD Console is powered by the new Tegra X1 which allows it to handle 4K video, native and streaming gameplay all at 1080p resolution, at 60fps.

The SHIELD Console will provide full access to Android TV’s ecosystem including games, apps, movies and more. Since NVIDIA has been working with many of the game companies for a while now there are already over 50 titles optimized for the SHIELD.SHIELD_and_SHIELD_controller

The real power of the SHIELD is access to the NVIDIA GRID game-streaming service which comes pre-packaged with the console. NVIDIA GRID provides access to a library of AAA games all streamed to the console, games ranging from Batman: Arkham Origins, to Metro: Last Light Redux. You can also stream and purchase new AAA titles like Batman: Arkham Knight and the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

NVIDIA has really built a unique offering with their devices and GRID Service, one of the biggest complaints of gamers is having to re-purchase the same game across multiple platforms if you want to be able to play your games at home, on a tablet, or on the go, but all that goes away with the SHIELD family of devices and the GRID service.

The SHIELD console will be available in May starting at $199, and we’ll be keeping you updated with all the news and information we can get our hands on for the SHIELD Console.
