In what has become a trend in video games, companies are offering ‘Season Passes’ to pre-purchase downloadable content for games (sometimes games that aren’t even released themselves). Well Gearbox and 2K are following that trend, but stepping a bit differently with Borderlands 2.

Gearbox announced the Borderlands 2 Season Pass will be available for purchase for $30 and include all four DLC packs. This is good news for gamers for two reasons, first we know that there will be 4 DLC packs for Borderlands 2. Second, we know that it will only cost $30 instead of $49.99 like some other passes (cough COD: Elite, cough, Battlefield: Premium). This price point isn’t unheard of, Gears of War 3 did it and they were very successful, so 2K and Gearbox learned that they can make more than enough at this level.

Pass holders will be able to download the new content as it goes live, with all four “scheduled to be available by June 2013.” The Season Pass for Borderlands 2 will be available on September 18th with the launch of the game.
