Google today had to deal with the injunction that Apple has against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, by temporarily removing it from the Play store. This means that users can’t by Googles flagship device straight from the source which is most certainly not a good thing for Google, Samsung or Android as a whole.

Google has already come out and said that the device will be back in the store next week, once it has had time to get Android 4.1 (JellyBean) onto devices. Google feels that the software update will resolve any of the outstanding issues that are keeping the device from being sold due to the injunction.

Google and Samsung (along with other Android handset OEMs) are in multiple disputes with Apple over patent claims which has caused delays in multiple hardware launches and even bans. Apple most recently has won two injunctions against Samsung which is hurting the company more than most at the moment. Samsung today released the following statement to address the ongoing patent wars.

Samsung is disappointed with the court’s decision that denied our motion to stay. We believe today’s ruling will ultimately reduce the availability of superior products to consumers in the United States. We will continue to pursue an appeal of the Galaxy Nexus preliminary injunction, which we filed on July 2 to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Meanwhile, we are also working closely with Google to resolve this matter, as the patent in question concerns Google’s unified search function.

These patent wars are really getting in the way of us getting the best technology, both from a hardware and software standpoint. I’m all for protecting intellectual property but the system we currently have in place just doesn’t work with the way the world is right now and unfortunately until it’s fixed we’re going to see a lot more bans and crippled devices which is bad for everyone. I’m not the only one who thinks this way, check out this article from Reuters from the Judge who ruled in the Apple Motorola case recently.
